Morning, London! Happy Thursday. Hope St Patrick's Day treated you well. Whether that was a Guinness, a quiet nod to the date, or absolutely nothing at all, all valid.

Right, things are moving. Tomorrow is the spring equinox. Officially. Clocks go forward a week on Sunday. And Easter holidays kick off the week after that. It's all happening at once.

Which means next week's issue is the Easter special, packed with things to do across the city with the kids. A few good ones already in this week's listings below to get you started. Let's get into it.

Finally a splash of yellow!

..LONDON SNIPPETS..

Bits that caught our eye

🏆 London just topped the Europe family destination rankings. U.S. News & World Report named London the best family destination in Europe for 2026. Free museums, parks, Harry Potter, the lot. You already live here. Quietly smug moment. Full story

🦊 A London fox smuggled itself to New York. A two-year-old red fox somehow boarded a cargo ship in Southampton, survived a 3,400-mile crossing, and was discovered by US Customs officers when the ship docked in New York. He's now living at the Bronx Zoo. "He seems to be settling in well," said the zoo. No word on what his plan was, but clearly he had one. Full story

🐝 Britain's first elephant shrew pups born at a UK zoo. Called "the Snootlets" by keepers, the tiny mammals look like a cross between a mouse and a miniature anteater. Related to elephants despite being the size of a golf ball. Full story

..LONDON ARCHIVE..

Always moving, always London.

🐴 Piccadilly Circus, c.1900. Horse buses, no neon, no screens. The fountain is already there but Eros hasn't been added yet. Quieter, somehow, despite the chaos.

Piccadilly Circus, circa 1900

🏛️ Ludgate Hill, 1920. St Paul's still dominating the skyline. That railway bridge cutting across the street was one of London's most complained-about eyesores for decades. They finally knocked it down in 1990.

Ludgate Hill, circa 1920

..BRAIN BITES..

Wow your kid, and outsmart the other parents

London Fact: London is home to over 10,000 urban foxes. 🦊 They roam streets, gardens and parks after dark, completely unbothered by city life. If you live a bit further out, you’ve probably had your bin turned over.

Fun Fact: Flamingos are only pink because of what they eat. 🐦 They are born grey, and over time their diet of shrimp and algae turns them pink. Take that away and the colour fades back to pale. Eat your greens.
